Two Songs: “Crackle & Drag (original)” + “Crackle & Drag (alt)”

Haven’t done a Two Songs post in a while and I feel like the last one was a huge online success so here we go again for round 2… This one might seem kind of lame because they’re alternate versions of a single song from Paul Westerberg‘s 2003 album Come Feel Me Tremble, but dammit, it’s Paul Westerberg and it’s a freaking catchy song. My overall preference is probably for the original cut — especially the harmonics during the verses — but I like how the alternate, “stripped down” version highlights the melody and that bass line. Wow, these songs remind me of my first month as a freshman in college…

  1. How does Westerberg manage to sound simultaneously against-the-wall desperate and the-hell-with-it nonchalant whenever he sings? Why don’t we try singing like that?

  2. The odds of one of us being able to pull this off are slim so I propose that each of us master one sound and then sing in unison. I’ll take desperate, you work on nonchalance.
