I’ve been listening to quite a few long tracks of late, so a new series: ST Fear… We’re talking anything at or above the 8-minute mark. We’re talking extended instrumental jams (not jammy jams though). We’re talking repetition, movements, and solos rather than verses, choruses, and bridges. Yes, JB, we’re talking Mogwai territory.
And believe me Mogwai will feature, but for the inaugural post I have to go with this track by Sun Kil Moon (Mark Kozelek, Red House Painters, etc). Positioned 3/4 of the way through the album, “Duk Koo Kim” is the climax of Ghosts Of The Great Highway (2003), an epic album about love, spirituality, and boxing — all three of which intertwine seamlessly to give the album a timeless feel. One of my favorite lines comes from “Duk Koo Kim”: Watching an old fight film last night… Ray Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim… The boy from Seoul was hanging in good… But the pounding took to him… And there in the square he lay alone… Without face without crown…
Okay, it’s finals week, so I am not ashamed that I’m clueless about the category title “ST Fear”. Please fill me in.
Also, this will likely become my favorite thread. Just sayin’
Understandable. I’ll give you a hint: It starts with Mogwai and ends with Satan.
I havent posted in awhile….. so….
Oh, hey.
I just wanted to comment because I think ST has been lonely. Mogwai is awesome. That is all.
