So the combination of family parties, friends in town, and general holiday what-have-you kept me off the grid for a bit, but I’m totally back. Now that we’re getting to the back end of December, it occurs to me that Matthew’s bday is right around the corner, so I thought I’d throw up something in honor of his not so immaculate conception (that sounds way creepier than I was hoping). And what better way to celebrate 12/25’s true significance than with a tune about what a shitty mess the holiday the date is (slightly) more famous for has become. Here’s Ray Davies and The Kink’s with “Father Christmas,” a heartbreaking tale of poverty and class strife set to sleigh bells, an awesome guitar riff, and drum rolls that just won’t quit.
