So the Monday blues were partially alleviated today by a belated Xmas gift, the recently reissued sophomore effort from early ’80s garage revivalists, the Fleshtones. Though perhaps less remembered than their retro compatriots Lyres or psychobilly standards the Cramps, the ’Tones brought the same rowdy swagger and fuzz-tone aesthetics to the table. Singer Peter Zaremba’s disinterested drawl is one of those frustratingly rare examples of vocals being perfectly mated to the music around them, simultaneously capturing the shimmy and the sneer behind his band’s throwback cool. Pepper in some organ and harmonica work to go with the nervous guitars and party-centric rhythm section, and you’ve got rock and roll strut at its finest. Anyhoo, here are a couple from the ’Tones.

The bass player on the far left of that image is absolutely rocking that turtleneck.
