I finally broke down and bought Should’s A Folding Sieve (1992) off iTunes yesterday. Typically I prefer to buy the physical album, but a used copy is going for around $35 on Amazon and I still have an iTunes gift card from last Christmas, so ya… That and with the way Michigan football has been playing with my emotions over the past week, I deserved it.
Anyway, it’s a solid album that falls on the dreamier end of the Shoegaze spectrum. They remind me of some other early-90’s ‘gazers like The Field Mice or some of Slowdive’s more downtempo tracks. Actually, with the simultaneous guy/girl combo on vox and the somewhat minimalistic approach to creating atmospherics, they sound quite a bit like Low.
“Breathe Salt” is probably their “Alison”/”To Here Knows When”, but check out the track “Own Two Feet” above. That lead guitar has me absolutely hooked.
