Picked: Majesty Shredding – Superchunk

After hearing some high praise from Scott a few months ago, I finally picked up Superchunk’s new album, Majesty Shredding. Although they don’t quite hold the same standing in my record collection as contemporaries like Pavement, Archers of Loaf, or Built To Spill, they’re unquestionably one of a handful of 90’s indie rockers that helped define that era of music and continue to put out consistently solid albums. And considering it’s been nearly ten years since their last outing, 2001’s Here’s To Shutting UpMajesty Shredding is surprisingly youthful — a great combination of the breakneck tempo of On The Mouth and the songwriting of Here’s To Shutting Up. I don’t typically recommend recent albums to people looking to get into a classic band like Superchunk, but this might be an exception. “Everything At Once” makes me want to start a band. And I’m in like 3 of those already…

Check It Out If You Like: Built To Spill, kickin’ solos, FUN

  1. Sorry I never sent you this, Dude. Life just kept getting in the way. Anyhoo, Mac could use the royalties. Not like he co-founded a successful record label or anything.

  2. Ya that was my thinking, so I just went for it. Glad I did. “Digging for Something”, “Roesmarie”, and “Crossed Wires” are all classic tracks.
