Late Night In Studio: “Good Morning, Captain”

Well it’s a late night in studio for me, and this track by Slint is singlehandedly keeping me going at this point. So simple but so good. That drum and bass combo throughout is almost too good. I’m actually surprised it hasn’t been remixed by someone like Four Tet yet. Add in the killer ending complete with a guy yelling “I miss you” (somehow without being cheesy) and you have a track solidly holding a spot in my 30 before 30 mix. More to come on that soon…

  1. Merlin agrees. It’s a classic. You forgot what really makes this song great (and every other great song)… a lack of singing ability.
    30 Before 30:
    Have we covered Radiohead yet?
    I have to add Mogwai Fear Satan as well…
    And what’s your GY!BE vote?

  2. My dilemma is deciding whether or not to include bands like Radiohead who most people have already heard. I mean a track like “Idioteque” or “The National Anthem” should probably be on there but is it worth taking a spot from another band like the Silver Jews who may have gone unheard?

    As for Mogwai, gotta go with “New Paths Pt 1 (BBC version)”, “Mogwai Fear Satan”, or maybe “Yes I Am A Long Way From Home”?
    GYBE = “Sleep”

  3. Hmmmm. I just can’t imagine skipping out on radiohead… Any of the three Mogwai will work for me, but I have to say I have a crush on “Storm” for GYBE. I just get goosebumps every time I listen to it. As for another 30 before 30 suggestsion, I hope you will agree to an Andrew Bird song (either “Anonanimal” or any live version of “A Nervous Tick Motion of the Head to the Left”)

  4. I’m a sucker for great drum beats and the one that starts at 18:19 of “Sleep” just gets me every time.

    Andrew Bird… I don’t know man. My list is at like 90 songs right now, so I would have to hear a pretty convincing argument to get him added…
