Typically I find the “Genius” sidebar in iTunes to be painfully uninspiring (“You have music by Archers of Loaf… check out Superchunk!”) or just downright painful (“You have music by Pavement… check out Wavves!”), but today it actually proved useful: “You have music by Blind Mr. Jones… check out A Folding Sieve by Should.” Don’t mind if I do. As a longtime Shoegaze aficionado, seeing an unfamiliar name mentioned in reference to the genre is always exciting. And on first listen, I’m pretty sure this is a must-have. The tracks “Breathe Salt”, “Pulling”, “Own Two Feet”, and “Singe” have me particularly interested. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but they kind of sound like a middle ground between the Swirlies and the Lilys.
Now the question becomes: Do I wait and try to find a physical copy next time I’m in NYC or break down and buy it off iTunes? I may need to reward the genius sidebar for this one…
