Meant to put this up awhile ago. So ya, new stuff from last month…

The Wedding Present — Bizarro (1989)

  • Late 80’s/early 90’s indie rock? Yes, please. A cover of Pavement’s “Box Elder” is a plus as well.
  • CIOIYL: Bedhead, Pavement, etc.

We All Have Hooks For Hands — The Shape Of Energy (2009)

  • These guys do carefree, sing-along pop but they do it really well.
  • CIOIYL: Mouthful Of Bees, crappy singers.

Califone — Heron King Blues (2004)

  • I wish I could sing like singing was something I was suppose to be doing.
  • CIOIYL: Not crappy singers, Ugly Casanova, “Jesus Etc.”, Red Red Meat, slightly experimental music with twang.

Boards Of Canada — In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country [EP] (2000)

  • Came across this for $1 so I had to buy it. Nostalgic electronic at its best.
  • CIOIYL: Anything by Boards Of Canada and/or you are curious why electronic music sounds like it does today.

Chapterhouse — Mesmerise [EP] (1991)

  • Another addition to the Shoegaze collection. I really need to find their final full-length, Blood Music… Also, their dolphin-themed album cover above puts all non-dolphin-themed album covers to shame.
  • CIOIYL: To obsessively collect a dreamy brand of pop music, dolphins.

  1. Okay team slayer. I just had a moment of clarity (likely at least a triple kill on the Halo scale of brain children)… This is of course all Corona hypothetical, but I think a team concert-attending adventure is a necessity. Yes, we all have lives, and by we I mean everyone but David and I, but I think it would be epic, sword of a thousand truths epic. What say you? Oh and happy birthday Calth.

  2. I don’t care how many Coronas it took for you to post this, it should definitely happen. Unless everyone wants to come out to NYC for a show, I’ll be back in OH over Thanksgiving. We should start looking.

  4. This is a fabulous idea Merlin, and matt i got all excited about that song kick website and got 35 bands tracked in like 5 minutes, then i realized no one comes to columbus….

  5. If you list Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, and maybe Indianapolis you might have better luck.
