Though Starflyer 59’s debut album, Silver (1994), came out just a couple years after the initial wave of Shoegazers had died out — Slowdive, MBV, Ride, Lilys had all broken up or started transitioning into Brit-pop — it brought a somewhat bleak ambience to a genre that had written some of the best pure pop songs of the time. Starflyer 59, aka Jason Martin, took Shoegaze into a darker, dare I say, grungier realm for a couple of albums before succumbing to the allure of pop.
The Allure of Pop. That should definitely be the name of Laszlo Toth’s first album once we sell out.
