CHRISTMAS EVE!!! The time for holiday music is running short, so I’m compelled to get in my licks now while the proverbial Christmas juice (what you’ve never heard that story?) still flows. I’m particularly fond of Xmas songs that (like the previously posted Kinks’ track) tone down the Yule-tide nostalgia in favor of a bit of fun, sarcasm, humor, etc.  “Holiday Spirit” by one of my all-time favorite bands, the dB’s, includes heavy dollops of all three in ninety short seconds. The song’s irresistible “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” chorus, combined with its off-the-wall lyrics about arboreal transformations and breakneck tempo add up to a frenetic blast of the tune’s namesake and a refreshing alternative to the typical Bing Crosby holiday fare.
