Upcoming: Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will.

Yep, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will is the title of Mogwai’s upcoming album (February 15) and “Rano Pano” is one of its tracks. It’s apparently a requirement these days that Post Rock bands create the most nonsensical song names as possible. Other tracks on the upcoming release include “George Square Thatcher Death Party,” “Too Raging to Cheers,” and “You’re Lionel Richie.” While it hasn’t worked incredibly well over the last few studio albums, I’m digging “Rano Pano” and Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will is one hell of an album title. Here’s to hoping it packs as much punch as Special Moves, one of my favorite albums in 2010.

  1. You know, they say hardcore died when the first kid said, “hardcore will never die, but you will.” So I guess we’ll see what happens. Cool song, though. I see they’ve made the jump to Sub Pop. Mayhaps that will lead to the reinvigorated sound you seek, Matt.

  2. So you don’t think THIH has “worked out incredibly well” huh? A lot of the songs that make Special Moves awesome come from THIH like “I’m Jim Morrison I’m Dead” , “Scotland’s Shame”, and “The Precipice”. While overall the album may not compare with Young Team most of the tracks at least show promise of continued Mogwai greatness.

  3. Good point, I definitely agree that THIH is their best studio album since Rock Action, but even my favorite tracks on that disc — “The Precipice” and “Batcat” — in my opinion are 20 times better live. It’s a production thing — they seem to lose some punch in the studio. Even Young Team is quite tame compared to the live versions I’ve heard. Maybe they’re just a better live act, but I’m hoping this new one captures some of the Special Moves/BBC magic.
