B-Sides: “Built To Spill”

We’ve got ourselves a new series here. I was listening to Built To Spill‘s debut full-length, Ultimate Alternative Wavers (1993), today, and while understandably not as accomplished as their later work, there’s some really great stuff on here. It’s raw, it’s diverse, it’s simple, and above all, it’s one of those albums that could only result from a clearly talented band trying to find their “sound” early in their career. B-Sides is a new series on The Tracks where I’ll post what I consider a lesser known track by an otherwise well known band. In this case it’s early material from a classic band, but in the future, it’ll probably also include less popular cuts from classic albums, actual b-sides, live tracks, etc. Hopefully this’ll give me a reason to post some songs that might otherwise never find their way onto the blog. Anyway, here’s the track “Built To Spill” from the album mentioned above. Gotta love the artwork as well.

  1. Dude, if the Mermaid Avenue doesn’t end up on B-Sides I am going to be furious.
