Pavement – Perfect Depth
It was three summers ago now that Scott and I started Slay Tracks. Our intent was simple. We buy music — yes, we still do that and yes, more often than not it is in the form of a compact disc — we put it on here to share with each other. At the time, I was barely employed and poor but on my way to graduate school. Scott was very employed but barely had a real fish tank. Some might say it was the perfect recipe for success.
And now look at us three years later. With the invaluable additions of John and David, our readership has doubled. Scott finally has the foundation for a real fish tank. And I just spent a Friday afternoon duct taping a muffler back onto an ’89 Volvo station wagon. In other words, not much has changed.
Except for The Tracks itself: Welcome to Slay Tracks v2.0.
With school finally behind me and that muffler good and taped, I finally had a chance to sit down and get us into some new up-to-date digs. I haven’t implemented everything yet, so we’ll be rolling out some new features over the next week. Here’s what’s new:
- A slightly new design.
- Mobile compatibility. You can finally read The Tracks on a tablet or mobile device without being stuck with the full site (go ahead and resize your browser to see this in all of its dynamic, flexible glory). A non-flash music player is on its way for iOS users out there.
- Social media stuffs: Share a post with email, Facebook, or Twitter in the sidebar. Like and/or tweet at the bottom of each post. Use ’em. Maybe we’ll get our readership up to 6.
- Some new sidebar content. I’d like to point out how big the use-adjusted “Mogwai” tag is in the “Tag” section. Thank you John.
- And last but not least, bio pages for our distinguished contributors (guys, I will email about how to update this).
Like I said, more to come. It’s been 6 months since my last CD purchase and 2 months since my last post. Needless to say, I’m excited to get back to the slaying.

So Bill is going to be our foreign correspondent for the next year or so. He is in Taiwan doing some scouting for team slayer.
